About
I have had the race number 206 since 1982. I ran the number in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky, Southern California, Oregon, Washington, and now in the Northeast. The most “current” dirt bike I ever had was a 1993 CR500. Even in 1993 I felt intimidated by the complexity of the suspension system on the bike and wished for something that I could compete with that was simple yet effective.
When I hung up my boots in 1995 I watched the sport evolve into a true media sport with mass appeal. At the same time the complexity of the bikes continued to escalate - as did the price tags. I thought that racing competitively was out of my reach for good, and I knew that purchasing an older bike to just plonk around on would not scratch the racing itch that I developed in 2005. Then I discovered Vintage Motocross!
Vintage Motocross has really hit home with me for many reasons -
1. Low cost - for the price of one new MX bike I could have 3 really tricked out vintage bikes.
2. Low complexity - the classes I race in use bikes that I can tear down, put back together, and tune.
3. Brings back some cool memories - I am racing stuff I raced as a kid, but now I can afford the really trick stuff!
4. Lets me race with guys my age - plus they all have similar memories and reasons for racing Vintage. This makes for really a good time in between the races.
5. Lets me race some epic tracks, including Southwick, Budds Creek, and Broome Tioga.
Enjoy looking around on my site!
