The races that summer were a blur. All my buddies bought 250s so we could ride in the same class. College was coming up and I wanted to take my bike with me.
What a huge mistake. Found a local pro near school who let me keep my bike at his house. We hit all the major tracks in the area (including Red Bud) and both qualified to race at the Pontiac Supercross (amateur day). Most of the guys in the dorm did not even know my name because I was never there. My first term grades also reflected where all my energy was going......
Well, the bike stayed home for the rest of the college year. That summer, I did some racing again, but I spent most of my time at work or at summer school making up classes that I flunked.....

Even with the limited riding time, I got better and better. I was lapping all of my riding buddies at the races. Dad noticed, and made me a deal for the 1984 season. New bike, new clothes, van to put the stuff in, and he would help organize a charge at the 250B title in District 17. I had to pull grades at school. .
