My dirt bike dry spell ended in the summer of 1986.
Graduated from Western Illinois University and promptly left for sunny Southern California.

Worked at a Honda shop called Holiday Honda in Chula Vista. Sold a bike to a guy named Mike Houston - and that started a chain reaction of events that I still look upon as some of the best times of my life.

I had just purchased a CR500 and did not really know where to ride. Mike suggested a place called Palm Avenue.

Jeez, what a STOCK Honda!

Wow, what a place. Met a bunch of guys that RODE - I mean really rode. All the time. Eddie, Bob, Mike, and my riding buddy to this day, Steve Stumetz.

In this group I discovered that each guy swore loyality to a specific brand of bike - Steve to this day has refused therapy and insists that Suzuki's are the only bikes that aren't expensive book ends.

Also in this group were whiners, posers, and a legitimate fast guy. Steve and I loved to ride, but, as he put it in a recent email to me "we kind of sucked."

I thought I was cool!
